Hear From Mayra
Hi! I’m Mayra Mendez (she/her/ella), and I serve as a Career and Pre-Professional Specialist at the Strommen Center. I’m a proud first-generation college graduate, holding a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science in Management with a minor in Psychology, both from Southern Illinois University (SIU). I’m passionate about helping students navigate their career journeys, empowering them to explore opportunities that align with their unique goals, strengths, and values!
I believe that growth comes from pushing boundaries, which is why I often remind students, “Do it anyway, and if you’re scared, do it scared.” Whether it’s applying for an internship, preparing for an interview, or figuring out the next steps, I’m here to encourage and support students as they take those sometimes scary leaps.
I’m driven by a desire to help students feel confident in their paths and excited about the possibilities ahead. If you ever have questions, need guidance, or just want a yap session, my door is always open—and yes, there’s candy and snacks too!
