Welcoming New Scholars into Travelers EDGE!

As we start the 2025-2026 school year, we are very excited to welcome 8 new scholars to Augsburg’s EDGE cohort (see below). We were able to introduce them to the Travelers EDGE program during our Augsburg’s New Scholar Orientation, where we completed icebreaker activities like charades and would you rather for new scholars to get to know each other. They also played Kahoot to learn more about the many benefits of the EDGE program. We are looking forward to having them meet the rest of the Augsburg cohort at our first cohort meeting on Wednesday, September 17th! Congratulations and we are committed to connect with our new scholars more throughout the year as their ambassadors!

As a part of the EDGE program, one of the many great opportunities is to intern at Travelers Insurance during the summer. We both have interned at Travelers for one summer and thought that it was a very valuable experience so we will highlight some of the key takeaways.

This summer, I did my first internship with Travelers Insurance as an Accounts Payable intern. Some of my daily tasks included reviewing invoices, cash balancing, spreadsheets upload, and concur balancing. Throughout my internship, I also had many opportunities to improve my soft skills such as communication and public speaking through weekly networking sessions with Travelers employees and the end of the summer presentation. One highlight I had was the Golf Clinic on August 1st where the Saint Paul EDGE at Travelers were able to learn basic techniques about golf and had a competition at the end of the lesson. I had fun because I was able to connect with the other scholars and also sharpen my golfing skills. My time at Travelers was very valuable and I will continue to carry the knowledge and connections I have gained as I progress in my professional career.

During the summer of my freshman year, I got the opportunity to intern at Travelers in Operations Middle Market department, where I gained both technical and professional experience while learning more about the insurance industry. My main responsibilities was sending out Statement of Value (SOV) requests to agents, helping ensure policy information remained accurate and current. I gained technical skills by using Excel and BI-Workstation on a daily basis. One of my highlights of my internship was the chance to interview and network with a variety of senior managers with decades of experience, their stories and advice opened my eyes to opportunities in the insurance field and inspired me to how I can grow in my own career. At the end of the internship, I got the opportunity to present about my experience, which was a valuable moment of reflection and growth.
