Congratulations, Marcus!: Outstanding Staff Award Recipient

We are delighted to share that our own Marcus Carrigan received an Outstanding Staff Award at this year’s Staff Appreciation Event at Augsburg. To celebrate him, we wanted to share a little bit about Marcus and his work as seen by his coworkers. For those who don’t know, Marcus has a dual role as a program associate in both the Center for Global Education and Experience and the Strommen Center. In this role, he is constantly introducing staff and faculty to one another, amplifying campus events, and going the extra mile.

A brief overview of the many things Marcus does:

  • He excels at translating international internship experiences into strong resume content and making sure that students have all the information they need when preparing to study abroad.
  • He is committed to improving systems and reducing barriers for students, particularly around the 0-Credit Internship and advocates for policies that make it easier and more accessible for students.
  • He also has helped support others in times of unexpected change and ambiguity. In the summer of 2025, the Strommen Center was without a Director. During this time, Marcus demonstrated creativity, innovation, and strong leadership by helping implement three new industry-specific career fairs, which was an entirely new approach for our center. Recognizing that students value more tailored experiences, Marcus helped bring the vision of industry-focused fairs to life.
  • He was key in our 3rd Career Exploration Day – it would not have happened without him. This year, he worked to improve the experience for students, which led to having our first employer treks. He orchestrated not one but FOUR unique treks to give students opportunities to visit organizations and learn directly from professionals in the field.
  • He gave great, undivided attention to our Augsburg Circle Scholars, helping them write US resumes and cover letters, finding work on campus, and supporting their settling in on campus and in Minnesota. He is constantly thinking of how to be the best accomplice for those who need support and asking questions that come from a place of curiosity and anti-oppressive practice.
  • He is fueled largely by coffee, wit and cheer, keeping us motivated during the busiest of events. He is always focused on making sure everything he plans is the best it can be. If we were to describe him in three words it would be kind, caring, and caffeinated. He shows up every day with a smile on his face, even on the hardest days for us all and it truly is an honor to work with him.

Please join us in celebrating Marcus!
