Job Description 

Advanced Energy United’s Federal Priorities team is seeking a summer intern interested in and knowledgeable of federal clean energy policy. The Federal Priorities team will immerse you in our day-to-day interactions with clean energy companies, in conversations with our lobbyists, and with Congressional offices.

This role is for undergraduate and graduate students interested in clean energy, federal policy, and government relations who are curious, organized, and eager to learn. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing, research, and communication skills and will come in with a basic understanding of recent major federal energy policies, administrative actions, and current industry trends pertaining to permitting processes and critical minerals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legislative Research & Analysis: Track and analyze energy-related legislation in the United States Congress; prepare bill summaries, policy memos, and reports on Presidential executive and agency actions; attend and analyze hearings in relevant Congressional committees.  
  • Regulatory Tracking & Advocacy Assistance: Monitor updates in policy and regulations impacting the advanced energy sector; draft, review, and edit advocacy materials like letters, testimonies, and presentations; provide research support for cross-organizational project efforts.
  • Stakeholder Coordination Support: Assist with coalition partner communications and meeting coordination; manage trackers and take detailed notes on reoccurring calls.

Interns will work a hybrid schedule and therefore must be located in the DC, MD, VA area for the summer, a commutable distance to our DC office. A final project will be due from each intern and presented to the organization at the end of the program.

Required Skills

Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) 

Preferred Skills

Detail-oriented; intellectually curious; strong written and oral communication skills; and interest in advanced energy and/or public policy career

Compensation: $18.00/hr
