Guided by committed early childhood professionals who share relevant knowledge and best practices, you can integrate meaningful, professional experience into your studies through an Internship with Indiana University Bloomington Early Childhood Education Services (ECES).

IUB ECES provides high quality early care and education for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years to the IUB community. The IUB ECES programs believe that developing genuine relationships with children and their families and having a true understanding of child development established through real experiences enhances the professional’s ability to understand each child’s strengths, needs, and positively impact their growth and development beyond the early years.

Through the IUB ECES Internship program you will engage with young children, their families, and professionals while developing transferable skills, professional experience, and relationships with nationally and internationally known Early Care and Education programs.

Open to second semester freshman through graduate students, these internships are an opportunity to gain specialized experience with a focus on child development and collaborative processes in care and education. Interns will have the opportunity to practice developmentally appropriate interactions and facilitation, communication, and implement the skills learned in the college classroom to make a tangible difference for young children and their families.

Interns should plan to be onsite a minimum of 150 hours/ semester.

Internships may be a semester or academic year in length and are determined between the intern and Center Director. Internships may be repeated if the individual is seeking experience with other age groups (i.e. semester one internship with infants, semester two internship with preschool). Interns who desire receiving credit are responsible for arranging this with their advisor and department of study. These Internships are paid at a rate of $12.25/hour.

To facilitate assimilation of knowledge and experiences gained by the internship, interns will complete one of the following (their choice):

o Final Report that correlates with the goals identified with the application essay with their internship experience

o Weekly Journal

o Professional Development Presentation

Individuals pursuing degrees toward the following professions (or related fields) will develop applicable skills that are necessary while engaged in an internship with IUB ECES:
