APOYO is seeking candidates for an Educational Program internship during the 2026 fall academic term. The 3-month internship starts on September 28. A minimum of 12 work hours per week is required. (For interns earning credit, three credit hours may be earned for the 12 hours. For each additional credit, the intern will add four hours to the weekly schedule. Interns can work up to 20 hours for five credits.) If seeking academic credit, interns must make arrangements with their faculty advisor to meet CWU academic requirements and submit all necessary paperwork by September 16. The internship offers a $1,000 stipend.

OVERVIEW

This internship offers a college student the opportunity to grow as a leader in environmental stewardship, sustainability education, and racial justice advocacy. Interns will receive hands-on experience in community organizing, outdoor programming, and youth engagement, while exploring the intersections of nature access, cultural identity, and equity. Participants will help design and lead nature outings for Spanish- and English-speaking participants, sustainability workshops, and creative activities that empower Latinx families and build solidarity across Ellensburg. The program also includes mentorship, leadership development, and opportunities to explore career pathways in conservation, education, and social justice.

The ideal candidate is organized and dependable, creative and culturally aware, passionate about nature, sustainability, and racial equity, skilled in communication in both English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking), and excited to engage youth and build community through outdoor experiences.
