Program Overview
The Prizery’s Pre-K Arts Academy is an innovative arts education program for Pre-K students in Halifax County Public Schools. The program enhances early education through enriching multi-arts experiences. Over the course of a 7-week session, students rotate through music, storytelling/creative movement, and visual art classes designed to spark creativity while reinforcing early learning concepts such as language, spatial relationships, and science.
The program also develops small and gross motor skills and builds classroom proficiencies in cooperation, following directions, and paying attention—all critical for kindergarten readiness.
During each session, three arts teachers conduct three 35-minute classes per day in their discipline, five days a week, for seven weeks.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans appropriate for 4-year-old students: 15 classes per week for 7 weeks per session. (Lesson plans may be reused across sessions, as students differ each time.)
- Use five hours of allocated planning and room preparation time per session to design engaging, age-appropriate arts activities.
- Arrive no later than 8:30 AM to prepare classrooms for student arrival at 9:30 AM; stay after classes as needed to reset and tidy spaces.
- Participate in a weekly one-hour planning session with the Pre-K Arts Coordinator and fellow teachers.
- Provide the Pre-K Arts Coordinator with a supply and equipment list in advance; materials will be purchased according to the program’s budget.
- Maintain a positive, supportive, and creative classroom environment that encourages cooperation and curiosity.
Qualifications
- Background or training in music, storytelling/creative movement, or visual arts (degree or equivalent professional experience preferred).
- Prior experience teaching or working with preschool-aged children (3–5 years old).
- Ability to design developmentally appropriate lessons that integrate arts with early learning concepts.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Collaborative spirit and reliability.
Working Conditions & Schedule
Position is part-time, session-based (7-week teaching blocks).
Classes are taught weekday mornings (9:30 AM–12:00 PM), with additional planning and preparation time scheduled outside class hours.
